Фестиваль воды в Мандалае
Каждый год в середине апреля в Мьянме, Таиланде, Камбодже, Лаосе и Юньнани проводится фестиваль воды перед празднованием нового года. В Мьянме это называется “тинджан”, в Таиланде – “сонгкран”. Я оказался в это время в Мандалае, поэтому здесь фотографии и описание именно оттуда.
Ещё за несколько дней до официальных праздников, проезжая по дороге, люди начинают плескать воду на встречные машины. Затем в течение четырёх дней это принимает массовый характер и нигде нельзя пройти, оставшись сухим. И ладно ещё когда вода нормальной температуры, но иногда она со льдом, и никогда не знаешь какую на тебя выльют.
Главное действо происходит в центре города, где вдоль дорог сооружают специальные трибуны, с которых стоящие там люди обильно поливают из шлангов всех проезжающих и проходящих.
Water Festival in Mandalay
Every year in the middle of April before New Year celebration in Myanmar, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Yunnan there is time for the water festival. It is called “thingyan” in Myanmar and “songkran” in Thailand. I happened to be in Mandalay during that time, so all the photos and descriptions are from there.
A few days before official holidays people start splashing water in oncoming vehicles on the roads. Then during four days it reach mass scales and it becomes impossible to pass anywhere without getting wet. The water is not always of normal temperature, but sometimes it is with ice and you never know which you will get.
The main action happens in the city centre where special stands are erected along the roads, and people standing on them abundantly pour water from hoses on all passers-by.

Mandalay
Мандалай – второй по величине город Мьянмы, бывшая столица.
Mandalay is the second largest city in Myanmar and its former capital.
Довольно большую территорию в центре города занимает королевский дворец, окружённый водой со всех сторон.
Pretty large area in the city centre is occupied by the Royal Palace surrounded by water.

Bagan
Баган был столицей первой бирманской империи в IX-XIII вв., и во второй половине этого периода были построены большинство из тысяч сохранившихся до сих пор храмов, ступ и прочих зданий. Наиболее сильное впечатление производит не конкретные постройки, а их количество на небольшой территории. Поэтому лучший вид на них был бы откуда-нибудь сверху.
Bagan was the capital of the first Burmese empire in the 9th-13th centuries and during the second half of that period the most of the thousands of the remaining temples, stupas and other buildings were constructed. That’s not any certain buildings, but their quantity on a small area is the most impressive thing. Thus the best view would be from the top of something.

Padaung people
Народ падаунг относится к группе каренов, живёт в основном в штате Кайя и предпочитают называть себя кайянцами. Женщины падаунг известны своими шеями, которые удлиняются от постоянного ношения металлических колец (вернее спирали). С возрастом число оборотов спирали возрастает и вес достигает нескольких килограмм. Мне там говорили, что изначальной идеей ношения колец была защита от укусов тигров, есть и другие версии. Сейчас всё меньше женщин носит такое украшение, и главное причиной сохранения традиции является привлечение туристов.
В Таиланде есть специальная деревня, где таких же женщин показывают туристам, как зверей в зоопарке за деньги. В Мьянме же они сами приезжают на озеро Инле, и посмотреть их можно бесплатно, при желании можно приобрести их текстильную продукцию ручной работы.
Padaung people are one of the Karen ethnic groups. They live mostly in Kayah State and prefer being called Kayans. Padaung women are known for their necks which are lengthened because of constant wearing of metal coils. The older they get the more coils they have and the weight of the coils comes up to few kilograms. I was said there that the original idea of wearing them was protection of tiger bites, there are also other versions. Now less and less women wear such an adornment, the main reason of keeping the tradition is tourist attraction.
In Thailand there is a special village where such women are shown to tourists for money as animals in a zoo. In Myanmar they come themselves to Inle Lake, and one can see them for free and at will buy some of their handmade textile.

Nyaungshwe
Ньяунгшве – деревня рядом с озером Инле, в которой обычно останавливаются приезжающие на озеро.
Nyaungshwe is a village near Inle lake and the base where the lake visitors usually stay.

О еде / About food
Оказывается в Австралии есть рестораны, где можно есть неограниченное количество и при этом платить на выходе любую сумму. В Перте есть такое рядом с Swan Bells Tower, называется Annalakshmi, еда там индийская, вегетарианская. В Мельбурне, говорят, есть нечто с такими же правилами и с гораздо большим выбором. Очень интересная идея, раньше нигде такого не встречал. Где-то ещё такое существует?
In Australia there are restaurants where one can eat as much as they want and also pay as much as they want at the exit. In Perth there is such next to the Swan Bells Tower, called Annalakshmi. They have Indian vegetarian food. I was said in Melbourne there is something with the same rules, but with bigger choice. The idea is very interesting, I’ve never seen such things before anywhere. Do they exist somewhere else?

Bago
Баго – небольшой город, 80 км от Янгона. Имеет немало достопримечательностей и интересен наблюдениями за провинциальной жизнью. Электричество здесь обычно появляется в домах лишь на несколько часов, и то нестабильно.
Bago is a small town, 80 km from Yangon. It has quite a few sights and is also interesting for observing provincial life. Electricity appears in houses just for a few hours and even that is unstable.

Yangon
Мьянма - это, пожалуй, самая экзотичная страна юго-восточной Азии. И фотографии отбирать непросто. Поэтому их будет много, и буду делить посты о некоторых местах на части.
Myanmar is probably the most exotic country in Southeast Asia. It’s not easy to select photos to post. So there will be many of them and posts about some places will consist of some parts.
По Янгону гулять очень интересно. Город очень контрастный: остатки колониальной архитектуры, традиционные элементы и зачатки современной цивилизации.
It is very interesting to walk in Yangon. The city is full of contrast: remains of colonial architecture, traditional elements and rudiments of the modern civilizatioin.

Da Lat
Продолжу про Азию. Далат находится в горах на высоте 1500 м, в прохладном климате и позволяет отдохнуть от жары в других частях южного Вьетнама. Жизнь здесь тоже кажется более спокойной.
Now I’ll continue with Asia. Da Lat is situated in mountains, at the altitude of 1500 m, in cool climate and lets people have a rest of the heat of other places in southern Vietnam. The life here seems to be calmer as well.

О наказаниях у аборигенов.
В системах правосудия аборигенов существуют различные по степени жестокости наказания. Вот, например, относительно мягкое. Провинившемуся протыкают копьём бёдра, в результате чего человек не может ходить, никто ему не помогает, и так он долго и мучительно умирает. На практике, однако, до такого редко доходит, и раны обычно не очень опасные, но бывает всякое. Мягкое потому, что человека не убивают.
А вот исключительно суровое наказание. Шаман берёт в руку кость кенгуру, направляет её на провинившегося и поёт заклинание, чтобы тот умер, физически его даже не трогают. После этого его изгоняют, и он должен уйти умирать в другое место. Вера в заклятие настолько сильна, что они так и делают. Как-то раз, говорят, нашли одного такого умирающего, привезли в больницу, посмотрели, говорят: всё в порядке с тобой, будешь жить. Но тот не послушался, взял и умер.
About aboriginal punishments
In the aboriginal justice systems there are different punishments with varying degree of severity. For example, this is a mild one. Долго в доме не было интернета, но раз сейчас он появился, то можно снова что-нибудь сюда выкладывать. Я тем временем съездил раз на юг. И, в частности, немножко познакомился с местной фауной. Несколько картинок из деревни Доннелли Ривер.
I didn’t have internet at home for quite a long time, but now it’s back and I can post something here again. Meanwhile I took a little trip to the South. And in particular met some local fauna a little. Here are some pictures from Donnelly River village.

Mui Ne
Муй Нэ (именно "нэ", а не "не" надо говорить по-русски) – очень живописное и разнообразное место. В нём есть много всего: море, пляжи, пальмы, песчаные дюны разных цветов, рыбацкая деревня, интересные ландшафты. Есть и туристическая инфраструктура, но она несколько удалена от деревни, и я этого почти не видел.
Mui Ne is a very picturesque and diverse place, it has a lot of things: sea, beaches, palm trees, sand dunes of different colours, fishing village and interesting landscapes. There is also tourist infrastructure, but it is at some distance from the village and I didn’t see much of it.
